Physical Description | Shae is a shifter and as such has a number of different forms. Born as a fox, this is her 'natural' state, and in this form she has pale fur with a more tawny undercoat, and piercing blue eyes. Able to shift into a humanoid form, she retains the fur color in her hair, and as a 'human' she is petite and willowy with a pale complexion. In this form, she is free of her tail and any fur and appears to be completely human. She also has two hybrid forms, one in which she appears mostly human, but her ears and feet resemble those of her natural vulpine state, while her other hybrid state is considerably more animalistic, something akin to a bipedal beast-woman form, and in both of these hybrid forms she has a tail. When in the presence of people she trusts and hiding is not an issue, she prefers to be in her human-hybrid form, and regardless of form, her senses remain as keen as her natural vulpine state. In terms of size, her vulpine form is larger than the average fox; her weight does not change when shifting forms, it is merely redistributed. |

Personality & Traits
General Overview | Shae is a reserved and guarded individual, and yet underneath that tough exterior, she is sweet and gentle and caring. She has been to many worlds and seen many things, and though survival instincts encourage her to isolate herself on each new world she visits, if she sees people in need then she is driven to try to help them. Her experiences has made her outlook on life so bleak and jaded, yet this did little to quell that endless well of compassion for others.
Strengths & Weaknesses | Shae is a master archer, and a hunter both in human and vulpine forms, and she's a clever and intuitive problem-solver. She has picked up a myriad of skills to help her blend in with the natives of the worlds she visits, but the most useful of these skills is how quickly she can break down and assimilate new languages. The downside is that her social skills are lacking. Having been hunted since her childhood, she's also unable to trust anyone, and even if she helps someone, it's always under the assumption that they would turn her over to Inari if they knew what she was. In terms of her physicality, she is lithe and nimble, and quick on her feet (or paws, whatever the case may be). She's not overly strong in her human and human-hybrid forms, but her vulpine and vulpine hybrid forms offer her a little more in terms of strength. She's not much of a hand-to-hand fighter, relying too much on her primal instincts to help her win in confrontations, so she prefers the range of her bow if she must fight, although when at all possible she avoids fighting altogether. Her senses are sharp, with extended range of hearing and a sensitivity to smells, although these can both be hindrances in the right circumstances (high pitched sounds can be painfully irritating, and some chemical smells can be near debilitating even in small quantities). |

Ambitions | Shae really doesn't have any ambitions. Mostly, she is concerned with surviving, but she does also want to find her family, even though she has accepted that they are most likely dead. When she was younger she used to dream of finding a place to settle down to live peacefully, but that dream died after so many attempts to settle down ended with her near capture.
Hobbies & Interests | Just as Shae has no ambition, she no longer entertains any hobbies. When she is not actively hunting or trying to find a new world to run to, she often spends her time in quiet contemplation. She has vague memories from her childhood of painting flowers in vivid watery colors, and learning to play a large stringed instrument, but she has done neither of these things since her clan was captured by the Goa'uld System Lord Inari. |
Personal History | Shae has long since forgotten the true name of her people; known only as 'Kitsune', her people were acquired by the Goa'uld Inari, who prized these creatures for their ability to shapeshift from a fox to a form that appeared beautifully human. For years the Kitsune were kept in prison camps for breeding so that Inari could always have the most beautiful host, and those that were deemed sub-par were executed so that no other Goa'uld would be able to claim one as a host. Shae remembers when her mother offered herself up to spare her daughter the fate of being a host; Inari took Shae's mother as host, but took Shae with her as well, hoping that as Shae grew that she would be even more beautiful than her mother. For a while, Shae served as her mother's handmaiden, disgusted by the vermin that had infested the once gentle woman; as often as she could, Shae fought back against Inari, biting and scratching at the woman until Inari was forced to cage the child. Shae had no idea how long she was caged, but the day she was freed changed everything. From the confinement of her cage within Inari's personal chambers, she heard a commotion, and when the door were thrown open she saw none other than her father. He had led a rebellion to free his people and managed to sneak aboard Inari's ship when it docked on the planet; his hope had been to save his wife and daughter, but during the fight he had seen Inari and knew that his wife was beyond saving, but at least he could still save his little girl. Freeing her from her cage, he told her to run, and she shifted back to a fox and ran as fast as she could. Inari's reinforcements came and she heard weapons being fired, heard screaming and smelled blood, so much blood, but she didn't stop running. Her escape was so frantic, Shae wasn't entirely certain exactly how she managed to get off the ship, but once she did she just kept running, and running, and running until her tiny little body gave out. When she finally came to, it was to the sound of Inari's soldiers with their Oni masks tromping through the wild forests in search of her. She would dodge those Oni for weeks until Shae made it to civilization. She wandered, human and naked, into the village where she was taken in by the locals to be fed and clothed. In the process she'd seen the Stargate and how it was used, and later when Inari arrived to claim her escaped pet, Shae repeated what she had seen before to open the gate and escape to a whole new world. Shae was pursued to this new world, but evading her enemy had grown to be much easier and soon she was far away from Inari's Oni. Once free of her pursuers, Shae started to figure out what to do with herself. She no longer had parents to take care of her, so she had to take care of herself. She already knew the basics of hunting, both as a human and a fox, but before her initial escape she had never needed to rely on those skills. Now, it became time to hone those skills and learn to survive. She found another civilization, though she kept her distance, and learning to hide from them served as practice for if the Oni ever found her again. Although eventually she reached a point where she needed things, like tools to help her survive, namely a weapon and a good knife so she could skin her prey. Acquiring these things meant either stealing them or bartering for them. Her parents had raised her to be a good girl, to not do a naughty thing like stealing, but she also didn't want to be found by Inari again, so she learned to pick pockets to get what she needed, interacting with the people as little as possible to reduce the chances that she would be discovered and returned to Inari. Existing for a while on the outskirts of this society, she realized that they spoke differently, and as she watched and listened, she began to figure things out. She also learned that the Stargate had different symbols and that the combination she had used before may not work here, so she watched the gate to see what was used. When some holy men used the gate, she slipped through with them, hoping that by going to a new place that it would make it even harder for Inari to find her! And for a while this was true, but with every new place she went to, she would gravitate to the towns built around the gate rather than fleeing, and she would inevitably be found and held until someone could come claim her. Sometimes she was held until her parents could be found, as well intentioned as this was, it meant that word of her spread and Inari would find her. Time after time, Oni would come for her, forcing Shae to flee just as she was starting to feel hope that she might have found some place to live. So the poor little Kitsune fled again and again, each time losing more hope of ever being free to live her life on her own terms. She stopped going to towns, lingering only near enough to learn their language and how to work the gate if she needed to escape again, and if she ever needed anything she simply stole it and then retreated to the wilderness where she would make her den. Years of gate hopping passed and the child grew into a jaded but gentle young woman. As much as she tried to maintain her distance, she couldn't stop herself from helping others that often crossed her path. This usually put her at risk of being found, so she would often leave a world as soon as she helped anyone, resigning herself to a life of constant running and loneliness. At some point, she came across a Tok'Ra agent and assisted them. Since then she has been in an uneasy alliance with the resistance group. She doesn't fully trust them enough to let down her guard around them or work with them full time, but she trusts their motivations enough to do odd jobs for them in exchange for good or information. Exactly how much they know about her is uncertain, but whatever they know, they have kept her secret so far. As a result of her dealings with the Tok'ra, she has been able to start trading with other worlds to help improve her life, and in the past couple of years has found a world where she could settle down and has managed to find a measure of peace. |
