Personal History | Even as a young kid, Mark knew he was going to be a cop. There was no doubt in his mind about that, even though he lived in a smallish town. He joined the Explorer program as soon as he could and remained active throughout high school. He promised his parents he would attend college and did, obtaining a degree in criminal justice. The last year was done around his appointment as a deputy for the sheriff's department. He worked for the SO for five years before he couldn't deny his disillusionment any longer. The SO was nowhere near what he thought it should be. The undersheriff was a bully and the relationship he had with the department could be considered "abusive" at best. The Sheriff was spineless and allowed the undersheriff to carry on his tyranny. But Mark still loved law enforcement and stayed withe the SO because of that love, because he was married now and had a young child and needed the income. Also, because the local police department wasn't much better. A trip to visit a friend and old academy buddy working for Las Vegas Metro became life changing. While on the visit, he went on a ridealong with his friend and saw a notice for a job opening with something called "Office of Special Investigations" through the Air Force. Though he didn't really understand what they did, he took the information and applied, reasoning the worst is that it was no better than what he had now. But it was a Federal job, promised travel and more interesting cases. Which proved to be true. He tested, went through the background process then the grueling field training before being turned loose as a 'special agent'. Normally based out of Nellis Air Force, his family remains in Vegas, despite his (promised to be temporary) assignment to Cheyenne Mountain. |
