| Physical Description | She has caucasian skin and a slim body build generally concealed by military BDUs or khaki field gear. Her pale eyes and prominent cheekbones are probably her most immediately recognizable features. Internally is another matter. Mika has Situs inversus totalis; the total reversal of organs. This condition involves complete transposition (right to left reversal) of the thoracic and abdominal organs. The heart is not in its usual position in the left chest, but is on the right. The stomach, which is normally in the left upper abdomen, is on the right. There aren’t significant health risks associated with this condition, but it’s important to be aware of prior to treatment or surgery. |

| General Overview | Mikayla Rees, PhD MCIfA is an intellectual and a digger. She’s fascinated with the study of ancient cultures as she connects the dots to modern times and that requires that she get dirty now and again. Which is not to say she enjoys being dirty, but she loves doing field work and knows the dirt will clean off. She does not much care to be called a Tomboy, feeling the term implies her adventurous side is somehow less feminine or an inherently manly quality. She’s equally at home hosting fancy dinner parties or taking tea from plasticware. She maintains an accent indicative of her origins in the United Kingdom - with plenty of H-dropping and vowel shortening in certain words. | |

| Ambitions | Mikayla routinely travels beyond the solar system and visits planets throughout the galaxy! That’s impossible to top. She’d like to be able to share those experiences with friends, family and the general public. Not just the knowledge and stories, but the actual experiences. She still holds hope that the Stargate will become public knowledge and others will be able to travel the galaxy sans the military involvement. | |
| Hobbies & Interests | She’s fortunate that her childhood hobby/fascination has grown into a career. Outside of archeology though, Mika enjoys the theatre, stadium sports, art restoration and outdoor activities; scuba diving in particular. She started a scholarship program to help encourage young women to explore nontraditional vocations, realizing that university education is not an aspiration for everyone. |
| Personal History | Mikayla was born in Gravesend, Kent, England to Howard Hayward & Emilia Lorna. Her father owns a lucrative pharmaceutical company while her mother runs a fashion line and chose to keep her maiden name. Mikayla is technically the heiress to the family fortune; (which is substantial, but not world changing) however in working on the Stargate Program it’s more likely she’ll come to an untimely end and be survived by her parents. As a child she was possessed of a carefree nature and eagerness to explore which her family and tutors interpreted as her being lazy and unfocused. Her father wanted her to follow in his footsteps with a strong knowledge of chemistry. Her mother would have preferred she did anything more ladylike than digging in the dirt. But digging in the dirt was what she enjoyed the most and her parents were not tyrants so in time they accepted this about their daughter and cultivated the inclination into some sort of life pursuit that would incorporate the things she loved while also requiring a proper education and opportunity for travel abroad. Mikayla earned multiple degrees prior to joining the Stargate Program. She is an Egyptologist with a doctorate degree in Archaeology and a Bachelor of Science in Geology. Given the sensitive nature of her work with SGP and a lack of that all important ‘need to know’ element, she has not been authorized to disclose the exact nature of her work to her parents, but they have deduced it involves national security and the United States Government - or illegal smuggling of ancient artifacts on the black market - depending on which parent you asked. |
