Personality & Traits

Personal History Born June 20, 1981, in Odessa, Texas, Caleb Thomas Johnson was found with an umbilical chord wrapped around his neck in a dumpster behind the local Kroger.

Caleb was adopted by a local church deacon and grew up on a working ranch. He experienced a relatively uneventful childhood that was shaped by outdoor pursuits. Caleb was a boy scout and eventually obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. He loved to hunt deer and pheasant and later competed in a number of bronco busting contests.

Having graduated high school a year early, he found a job working at a local ranch until he could join the military and get the hell out of Odessa. His adopted father refused to give him permission to join early. The day after his eighteenth birthday, Caleb left his job as a ranch hand and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1999 as an 0311.

Shipping off to MCRD San Diego, Caleb adjusted quickly over the thirteen weeks and enjoyed the Corps more than anything he’d ever experienced before. Upon graduation from boot, Caleb was granted the rank of E-3 via AER (advanced enlistment rank).

Quickly, he gained admittance to the SSC (Scout Sniper Course). By the end of August of 2001, Caleb had distinguished himself enough to be given the opportunity to sit a variety of other courses such as: Urban, High Angle (Mountain), Scout Sniper Advanced Course; He even attended both the British Royal Marine Snipers School and Israeli Foreign Forces Snipers School.

After school was finally out, Caleb had been assigned to 2nd Marine Rgt., 1st Btn, 6th Marines. After reporting in, he took fourteen days of liberty. Caleb went to New York to visit a high school girlfriend. Shortly after his arrival, the attack known as 9/11 happened and Caleb watched the towers fall from his hotel window.

The feeling of being helpless wasn’t something Caleb had ever felt before. Caleb as recalled back to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

By March 20th, 2003 the invasion of Iraq had begun. Caleb (now an E-4) was on the ground apart of TFT (Task Force Tarawa). Providing overwatch and close quarters support for personnel conducting operations. Three days into his pump, Caleb was deployed into the Battle of Nasiriyah (Ambush Alley).

By the end of March, Caleb had been selected as part of the overwatch team providing support during the rescue of PFC Jessica Lynch who had been taken as a POW.

Six months later, Caleb rotated out back to Camp Lejeune. Bored out of his mind, Caleb was assigned as a SSC Instructor to keep him busy in his downtime. Nearly a year had passed since he first set foot in Iraq and Caleb was pushed back out for his second tour.

Back on the deck in Iraq in mid March 2004, Operation Vigilant Resolve (First Battle of Fallujah) was ramping up. When Brig. Gen. Kimmitt stated "We will pacify that city.”, Caleb knew it was going get colorful real quick. Shifted to stage out of FOB Volturno just outside of Fallujah, Caleb enjoyed nearly a month of nonstop action until Gen. Conway announced he was turning over operations to a Sunni Brigade formed by the CIA.

Not long after, the sunni brigade dissolved and joined various jihadist groups, which prompted the second battle of Fallujah. Caleb was temporarily assigned to JSOTF-121.
