Rules

1. This should go without saying, but there will be none of the following on this simulation: god-modding, metagaming, powerplaying, Mary Sue characters, Buckaroo Banzai characters, love children of Mary Sue and Buckaroo Banzai characters. If you do not know what these terms mean, please ask or look them up.

2. Please do the appropriate amount of research when creating your characters. Players writing military characters are playing characters from an actual real life military that can be researched on line. Even just using Wikipedia articles would provide enough basic information for a believable character. Players wanting to write a medical officer or an engineer, or a civilian character can look up how much education they need, where to get that education, and how long it would take to achieve that level of education and training.

3. Very soon there will be Character Creation Guidelines on the sim’s wiki page. The Nova Wiki can be a little clunky to set up, so be patient with us. Until then, please refer to rule 2 and create age appropriate characters with the proper mix of education, training, and experience, and be open to Command Staff, upon reviewing your application, making suggestions if they feel that’s appropriate to do.

4. Players may create NPCs, however the CO must approve them before they go on the manifest. All NPCs must have vital statistics (Age, Height, Weight, Hair Color, Eye Color), a physical description, at least a brief general overview, and a service record that includes the basics of their education, training, and experience. As with PCs, the CO reserves the right to discuss your potential NPC with you and, where he feels appropriate suggest additions, subtractions, or other modifications.

5. Please make a reasonable effort to remain active. If you are directly tagged in a post, you have 48 hours to reply. If you do not reply in that amount of time, other players may post to move the story forward. Similarly, the player who tagged you is free to tag another player or change the tag to a general one if your 48 hours have passed. We also ask that you participate in at least 2 published posts per month, whether they are joint posts or solo posts, or personal logs (you are free to write as many solo posts and personal logs about your character as you’d like, but please make sure you are participating in joint posts frequently.) We understand this isn’t always possible. When able, if you need a little extra time, contact the CO, XO, or your writing partner either through Discord or Nova PM or just leave an OOC message in the JP saying that you need X amount of time and then you can get to your tag. If we can give that to you, we will do so.

6. Please also be active in out-of-character areas, like the OOC chat and Discord. While in these areas, please be respectful of each other. While we understand that drama is not always avoidable, let’s try to keep it to a minimum please. While, as one wonderful CO put it “There’s nothing wrong with an occasional fuck” please don’t be an “F-Bombadier”, dropping F-Bombs like they grow on trees. This applies both to Out of Character communication and In Character posts.

7. No post signatures. Nova lists all characters involved in a post, so signatures are unnecessary clutter.

8. This simulation is rated 18+, 2/2/2, for adults only. Expect to be involved with and read posts containing adult themes. Caveat: posts containing rape, religion, politics, or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder must be cleared with the command staff before proceeding.

9. SPECIAL NOTE ON SEXUALLY THEMED POSTS: Yes, we are a PG-18, 2/2/2 Sim. However, we do impose a few fairly simple limits on sexual situations. Essentially, you can talk about sex as long as you don’t go over a 2 (Google "RPG Rating System" for details). You can engage in touching, kissing, and even undressing to a point. However, when it comes to the really graphic parts of sexual activity, please fade to black and turn the camera back on after everything is over. If you are someone who likes to write out what happens when the lights go out, please do so in Google Docs or a similar medium that only you and the other player can view. NO ONE IS REQUIRED TO WRITE OUT SEXUAL SITUATIONS. Anyone who feels another player is trying to pressure them into doing so should save all relevant communication and turn that over to the CO when they notify him of this issue. Command is not responsible for what happens in a Google Doc (or wherever), but if you do go into one and your writing partner starts making you uncomfortable, please stop writing with that person immediately, notify the CO, and copy any and all relevant communication to him. The CO will be extremely discrete in handling any sensitive or personal information.

10. At this time, there is no executive officer, so please bring issues directly to the CO. Once an Executive Officer has been recruited, this rule will change.

11. Stargate: New Dawn uses narrative format for all posts. Joint posts must be in third-person narrative while personal logs can be in first person narrative.

12. Stylistic guidelines are as follows. Speech will go in quotation marks, thoughts will be italicized, communications traffic will be italicized and inside quotation marks, telepathy will be both bold and italicized, and text communications will be bold. If we all follow the same guidelines, people will be less likely to get confused.

13. This is a Stargate simulation, so please make sure that anything you might create will make sense in that universe. If you are not sure, please speak with a member of the command staff.

14. Membership in the Stargate: New Dawn sim is AT WILL. That means that you are free to apply, the CO is free to accept or reject your application. If things are working out for everyone, you are free to stay or leave as you please. Coming back is a little more complicated, but if we parted on good terms, something may be able to be worked out. THIS PART IS IMPORTANT: the CO is free to decide at any time that things are not working out an bid you farewell. The CO will make every effort to do so respectfully and politely. He will do his best to be fair, and where appropriate attempt to work things out with you, but he will not allow players who create a toxic environment to remain on the sim while they rack up “strikes”, and if he decides that the sim’s relationship with you is just not working out, he’s not going to waste your time, his time, or the crew’s time.

15. Everyone is here to have fun, so let’s have fun!
