Valenti, Chow, Vasquez, and Djebar waited for the gate to open. A moment before, they had dialed a pre-determined address and sent a signal. They had received the encoded response and shut the gate and now awaited their Lady’s client. Finally the gate opened eight Jaffa wearing Phoenician armor and carrying both staff weapons and zats stepped through the gate. Then Balzar, First Prime of Resheph, stepped through the gate.

“First Prime Balzar,” Valenti said. “Lady Ossa sends her greetings to your Lord Resheph. We have brought the device as per the agreement between Our Lady and your---”

Balzar ignored Valenti and pressed a control on his wrist. A moment later, Resheph himself, Phoenician God of Plague, stepped through the gate, followed by four porters.

Valenti and the others dropped to one knee. “Lord Resheph!”

“You have brought the device?” Resheph asked. “And you know how to work it?”

“We have, my Lord,” Valenti said. “And we do. We have made note of everything we have learned regarding the device and have prepared recordings for you.additionally, we included DNA samples from all of the infected and from the eternal children.”

“Excellent,” Resheph said. He nodded to the porters who collected the device and all of the related materials.

“My Lord,” Valenti said. “If I may be so bold as to ask for our Lady’s payment?”

“Ah,” Resheph said. He looked to Balzar. “They want their Lady’s payment. Balzer, give them their lady’s payment.”

Balzar nodded. “Jaffa! Kree!” The Phoenician Jaffa aimed their staff weapons at the Ossa’s four Jaffa and shot them all dead as they tried to draw their zat’nik’tels.

Resheph nodded. “Leave the bodies as a warning.”

“Will not Ossa and her masters know that we have… changed the terms of our arrangement?”

“This does not concern me,” Resheph said. “In fact, let us make sure she knows. When we return to the palace, please inform Lady Ossa that I accept her offer to take the device with no payment required.” Resheph began dialing the gate. Resheph chuckled. “As if I would treat honestly Ossa! She is an avowed gossip and rumor monger and a lackey of two avowed liars and betrayers! Let them play their games with the Tau’ri! You and I have other business to attend to!”

“It shall be done, Lord Resheph!” Balzar said. He turned to his troops. “Jaffa! Kree!” he said. The Phoenician Jaffa marched through the gate followed by Resheph and then the porters and finally Balzar.
